Held daily from 5 a.m. to noon, this vibrant market spans four city blocks, offering a wide variety of fresh seafood—including crabs, salmon roe, and sea urchin—as well as locally sourced vegetables and fruits. Next, visit Fort Goryokaku, a star-shaped Western-style citadel built during the late Edo Period to defend Hakodate. Shortly after its construction, the fort became the site of a historic civil war between the Shogunate’s forces and the emerging Meiji government. Today, Goryokaku is a public park, renowned as one of Hokkaido’s best spots for cherry blossom viewing (typically in early May). At the heart of the fort is the Former Magistrate Office, a historical building that can still be visited—an ideal finale to this exclusive Distinctive Voyage shore event.
