Hanalei Colony Resort is an unspoiled, unplugged oceanfront hideaway on Kauaʻi’s North Shore, a peaceful escape in the lush landscape of Hāʻena. Guests fall asleep and wake to the sound of the ocean, with the beach just steps from the door.

Location and atmosphere

The resort sits on the beaches of Haʻena, each with its own character. It is quiet and far from the large resorts and busy towns, so the stay feels immersed in the North Shore. Guests mention the lack of loud music and crowds — ocean breezes and uncrowded beaches instead.

Home-like suites

Every suite is a two-bedroom condominium with a full kitchen, so families and longer stays can cook. Cross-breezes and ceiling fans keep the rooms comfortable. There is no air-conditioning. Bedding is comfortable, and a rollaway is available in suites that allow it. Parking is free, right near the beach.

All 48 suites are the same size: two bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a private lanai, with views of the ocean, the bay, or the gardens. Most suites sleep 3. A limited number can take a fourth guest for $50 per night. This package uses the 2 Bedroom Ocean View condo.

Two places to eat are on the property. Hanalei town, about a 15-minute drive or shuttle ride, has more restaurants and shops. Suites also have full kitchens.

• Opakapaka Grill and Bar — Beachfront spot for fresh local seafood, Hawaiian favorites, and cocktails. Open daily, 11 AM to 8 PM.
