Itinerary
Stop lengths below are the ones on the listing. The whole day is about 11 hours 50 minutes. The order and the clock can change with traffic and weather. Mt. Fuji may stay in cloud. The day still runs, and that is not a reason for a refund.
Shinjuku departure
Pickup is included at your hotel, the 3rd floor of the Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo Main Tower. Meet there, then about 2 hours 30 minutes by coach toward Mt. Fuji. The bus is air-conditioned and heated, one way. On a smaller day the vehicle may be a mid-size bus, a small bus, or a hired car.
Mt. Fuji 5th Station
About 30 minutes at the 5th Station, listed at 7,545 feet (2,300 meters). The admission ticket for this stop is free. The stop has shrines, torii gates, and souvenir shops. Views depend on the weather. In a typical year the 5th Station is reachable from late April into November. From about December into early April the Fuji Subaru Line is often closed for snow. If the road is closed, or if the views from the 4th or 5th Station are not worth the drive, the guide uses an alternate stop such as the Fujisan Museum, Lake Kawaguchi Oishi Park, the Fujisan World Heritage Center, the Itchiku Kubota Art Museum, or Oshino Hakkai.
Lunch and drums
The next listed stop is Fuji Zakura Hotel, about 50 minutes, with admission included. That is the stop before Lake Ashi, which is when the with-lunch meal is scheduled. The meal is Japanese-style, with tea or coffee, and a wadaiko performance by the Social Welfare Corporation Fugakukai. The drums can be skipped if the coach is very late, or canceled by the hall. No partial refund is published for that.
Ask for a vegetarian meal (no meat or fish), a Muslim-friendly meal (no pork or alcohol, and not halal certified), or an Indian thali (vegetarian, no meat or fish) when you book. Allergy-friendly meals and gluten-free meals are not available. A child up to 5 years old may join without a fare, and that seat does not include a bus seat or this lunch. Book the child rate if the child needs either one.
Lake Ashi
About 15 minutes on Lake Ashi (Lake Ashinoko), in Hakone National Park, with admission included. The listing describes a short boat ride, with Mt. Fuji and Mt Komagatake around the lake when the weather is clear. If the boat is not running, the guide uses another lake boat or a Hakone stop instead, and the day is not canceled for that.
Mt Komagatake
The description names the Mt Komagatake Ropeway, an enclosed cabin from the lakeshore to the summit, with time to look over Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji and a short walk on the top trails. The timed stop list names Hakone Ropeway for about 50 minutes, admission included. Ask Theresa which ropeway is on your date if weather closes one of them.
Odawara to Tokyo Station
A coach transfer, then a one-way Shinkansen from Odawara Station to Tokyo Station. The stop list gives Odawara about 34 minutes and Tokyo Station about 5 minutes. The return seat is not reserved. A bag whose height, width, and length add up to more than 160 cm cannot go on the non-reserved cars. Use a delivery service for that bag. After Tokyo Station, the day is over.
